Social Phobia Anxiety Disorder

Social Phobia Anxiety Disorder is the world’s third largest physiological problem. It is an anxiety disorder or anxiety attacks featured by overwhelming anxiety and excessive self-consciousness of a person in daily social situations. A person finds it hard to walk down the road or any street because he’s very self-conscious and feels that people are watching him. People with social anxiety feels that in public places like work, shopping, meeting etc. that everyone is watching them, and judging them. They can’t relax and enjoy themselves in public. They prefer to be alone or with closed ones. Because this type of anxiety is very painful, people having this kind of disorder finds it easy to stay away from these social situations and avoid other people.
Many people are struggle with these kinds of fears. But the situation that triggers the symptoms of social phobia can be different from person to person. Some people feel anxiety in most social and performance situations while for some other people anxiety is connected with some specific social situations such as speaking with strangers or going to parties etc. Physical symptoms of this social phobia anxiety disorder include rapid breathing, dry mouth, sweating, blushing, muscle tension, shaky voice, dizziness, twitching etc.
The treatment for social anxiety disorder varies from person to person. One may find the self-help strategies enough to ease his anxiety symptoms or one may need professional help as well some therapy or medication. Some of the self help treatments includes avoid or use of less caffeine, getting adequate sleep, quitting of smoking etc. Normally medication is also used to relieve from the problem of social anxiety but it is not a cure for this disorder. Among all the treatments available cognitive behavioral therapy can be said to work the best for treating social phobia or social anxiety disorder. This therapy includes the ways of controlling the symptoms of anxiety through relaxation techniques and some breathing exercises, replacing the negative thoughts with balanced views, facing those social situations in which the anxiety occurs rather than avoiding them.
